This guide aims to enhance your user experience by introducing a straightforward method to directly transfer specific records between Excel sheets and the MGFFT grid, streamlining your workflow without requiring complex setup procedures.
Overview:
There are instances in daily tasks where the need arises to exchange data swiftly between Excel and MGFFT. Typically, the Export/Import feature is intended for bulk operations involving entire tables, which may not always suit our needs. This guide introduces an additional straightforward, more direct approach.
Solution:
The capability for ad-hoc data transfer exists within MGFFT, although it may not be common knowledge. This functionality enables the easy copying and pasting of records between Excel sheets and MGFFT grids, and vice versa, facilitating immediate and straightforward data exchange.
Prerequisites:
Before proceeding with the transfer, ensure the following conditions are met to guarantee a seamless exchange:
1. Field Matching: Verify that the source (Excel sheet) and the destination (MGFFT grid) contain identical fields. This includes ensuring that there is a one-to-one correspondence in terms of field names and types.
2. Field Order: Confirm that the arrangement of fields in both the source and destination is the same. This alignment ensures that data maps correctly from one to the other.
Step-by-Step Process:
1. Prepare the Data:
- Open your Excel spreadsheet.
- Ensure the data you wish to import is formatted correctly (e.g., correct data types, no extraneous formatting).
- Select the entire block of records you want to import.
- Copy the selected records using the shortcut [Ctrl]+[C].
2. Paste into MGFFT Grid:
- Navigate to the relevant MGFFT grid to import your records.
- Add a new line on a destination grid and select it.
- Press [Ctrl]+[V] to paste.
Additional Notes
- Missing Fields: If specific fields in the MGFFT grid were left blank upon pasting, default values might be assigned automatically once the records are saved. This depends on the database and application settings.
- Large datasets: Note that for large datasets, consider using the standard MGFFT import/export feature for improved performance.
- Data Doesn't Paste as expected: To avoid unexpected results, you may always need to insert data into a new line/record on a grid. It would be hard to fix overwritten records/values, as there is no such feature as [Ctrl]+[Z] (reverse the last action).
