Overview: The replication functionality within Micromine Geobank for Field Teams (MGFFT) provides the capability to duplicate values in designated fields across a variety of records. This feature is especially beneficial for situations where it is need to input identical data across multiple records in a systematic manner, which can significantly enhance efficiency and accuracy in data entry tasks. However, it is important to note that there is a recognized issue that can impact the replication process under certain circumstances. This issue primarily arises when dealing with fields that possess specific data types and configurations. Understanding the nuances of this feature will help to make the most of its capabilities while navigating any challenges that may arise.
Replication Feature Description: The replication feature works as follows:
- Replicate Single Field: To copy a field's value to the next record, use the Records | Replicate | Replicate command or press CTRL+R. If overwriting existing values is desired, use the Records | Toggle Overwrite option or press CTRL+SHIFT+O.
- Replicate Many Fields: For replicating values across many records in a column, use Records | Replicate | Replicate Many or press CTRL+SHIFT+R. Options like "All records from the current position" and "Number of times to replicate" allow for further customisation.
For example, replicating the value from the "NORTH" field will copy to the same field in successive records using the replicate function.
Issue Description: The replication function works as expected, but an issue arises under specific conditions where field values are not successfully replicated, even though the source field contains data.
This issue occurs when all the following conditions are met:
-
Data Type: "Relationship"
The field has a "Relationship" data type, which defines parent-child relationships between tables. -
Editor Type: "Dropdown" or "Lookup"
The field is configured with an editor type of either "Dropdown" (for selecting values from a single-column list) or "Lookup" (for selecting values from a multi-column list, such as showing a description alongside a code). -
Filter Expression/Editor with Unchecked Condition
The filter expression or editor is set up in such a way that the condition cannot be evaluated until an initial value is provided. If the condition cannot be checked, replication will fail.
Workaround: Until this issue is resolved in a future update, the recommended workaround is to use the Initialisation - Copy (Increment) option.
Steps for the Workaround:
- Specify an initial value for the column where replication is needed.
- Use the Copy (Increment) option to define the initial value for the selected row and configure incremental values for the column.
- The increments will start from the initial value in the selected row, ensuring that the replication process continues correctly for the remaining records.
Using this workaround bypasses the replication issue and ensures that values are correctly populated in successive records, even when the problematic conditions are present.
